Physical Description: Tall and slender, Kaye stands at 5’9” barefoot. A little on the pale side, she has brown wavy hair that she wears around chin length and grey blue eyes, the left of which is noticeably paler. She dresses for comfort not style, with jeans and cotton tops making up most of her wardrobe with the odd nice dress or smart outfit that Louise encouraged her to buy stuffed somewhere near the back. Although they aren’t married, Kaye and Louise do wear matching rings and if Kay has to remove it for any reason, she slips it onto the chain around her neck. Personality: Kaye has a tendency to give people a misleading first impression. On first meetings she can seem rude and inarticulate however if people make it past that they find she has a very dry sense of humour and is incredibly erudite. Passionate about all aspects her life, she wears her heart on her sleeve, is loyal to a fault and would never set out to hurt or upset people. Despite her difficulties meeting people, Kaye enjoys being around others – providing she has a friendly arm to latch on to and bail her out of trouble - and particularly enjoys going to see live music at small venues. As long as a situation doesn’t involve her having to deal one-on-one with people, Kaye is good to have around in a crisis. She has a logical brain and a knack for coming up with practical solutions to problems. Sexuality: Gay History: The second child of two white witches, Lillian and Kristopher Pravett, Kaye grew up in Boulder, Colorado and spent most of her childhood trailing after her older brother Harri and their cousin Marcus refusing to let the fact that she was five years younger than them and a girl prevent her from trying to join in whatever they were up to. As soon as she was old enough to understand, Kaye’s parents and Aunt Naomi began teaching her about magic; how it had to be respected, how to use it and why she should only talk about it with family. Like her parents and brother, Kaye was initially drawn to white magic however after Naomi explained to her the principles of grey magic she was compelled to try and explore that as well. As she reached her teenage years, with both Harri and Marcus off to college, Kaye threw herself into her school work particularly computer science which had started as a hobby but soon became her main pursuit alongside magic. As she approached graduation, Kaye had plans of attending Cal-Tech however it was to prove not to be as during winter break her senior year, she was involved in a traffic collision while in a friend’s car. Her friend went unscathed however Kaye suffered a severe injury that despite the best efforts of both doctors and the family’s white magic caused her to lose almost the entire use of her right eye. As she struggled to adjust to her new disability, Lillian and Byron insisted she stay home instead of going to California for college so she enrolled at UCB. Kaye was 22 when Harri announced he was joining the military and, like the rest of her family, was upset and worried for his well-being. She understood why though, knowing his passion for healing, and gave him her support, though she worried about the impact it would have on his marriage, having liked his wife Annie from the moment they’d met. After completing her MS in Computer Science, Kaye began working as a web-designer and it was through a chat room she'd worked on that she met Louise. Corresponding online at first, by the time they actually met Kaye managed to avoid making a complete prat of herself, which was normally what happened when she met people. The two connected and began dating. They had been dating a couple of years when they revealed their supernatural natures to each-other; Louise had had her suspicions about Kaye and Kristopher who knew quite a lot about elementals had voiced his thoughts to Kaye. The revelations brought the two closer together and Kaye moved in with Louise not long after. While she was happy with Louise and enjoyed her work, Kaye was frustrated by her lack of progress in white magic, having been stuck at level two since college and decided to take drastic measures. After months of research, she found a grey spell that she felt would help her level up and with confidence cast it. She woke up in bed ten hours later with a very pissed off girlfriend and mother scowling at her and her head pounding but she could feel the knowledge there waiting to be tapped. When she finally convinced everyone she was fine and could get up, Kaye immediately wrote a permanent warding spell and tried to cast it. Nothing happened. She tried again, same result. Ditto on the third and fourth attempt. Lillian took the spell and tried it – it worked first time. It took more experimenting before she realised that the higher levels of white magic were blocked to her and would stay that way, she would only ever understand them. Reasoning that having the knowledge and doing nothing with it was pointless, Kaye set up a website for white magic users so she could advise other witches. Kaye and Louise were in the process of moving to Scarlet Oak as Louise had been offered a position as a lecturer at MU starting in September when she received news from Lillian that Harri was back in the States, working at the Scarlet Oak Clinic and not answering his cell. Filled with concern about her brother, Kaye promised their mom she would go and find him. Wasting no time in booking a plane ticket and with Louise promising to follow her to Michigan as soon as possible, Kaye is on her way to Scarlet Oak to find Harri. Since the Light of May: Kaye holds the firm belief that everything happens for a reason and the Light of May is no exception. While it hasn’t had much impact on her life, other than a bunch of very curious humans turning up on her forums, she hopes that it will bring positive change to the world. However she has the uncomfortable feeling that things will get worse before they can get better. Special Skills/Abilities: While many people with fae blood have an affinity for languages, Kaye excels at just one – coding. She is a natural with computers and by freshman year of high school already could do more with a computer than any of her teachers. Also as the result of a spell, she has the knowledge to achieve a mastery of white magic. She can’t put any of it into practice past level 2 but its there. Personal Weaknesses: Blocked: The spell that she cast in her mid-20’s means that while Kaye posses a vast amount of knowledge about white magic, she will never progress past level 2 herself, something she finds incredibly frustrating given the rest of her family’s talent for it. Iron Aversion: Like most of the women in her family, since birth Kaye has reacted badly to iron. Being around cold iron causes her to develop flu like symptoms and if iron gets into her blood, it can cause her to go into anaphylactic shock. Partially Sighted: Kaye is almost entirely blind in her right eye, which is only able to distinguish light and dark. As a result, she struggles with depth perception, is reliant on public transport or Louise to get around and gets easily agitated in crowded spaces. Lack of Social Skills: There’s a reason Kaye works at a computer and it’s not just because she has a flair for them. Kaye struggles with meeting new people which depresses her as she genuinely likes making friends, she just doesn’t have the first clue about how to do it in person. Whether it’s saying the wrong thing, a complete lack of tact or laughing inappropriately its rare Kaye manages a whole conversation without scaring people away. Personal Strengths: Common Sense: The voice of reason in a crisis, Kaye is the practical partner in her relationship and that’s the way she likes it. She has a shrewd way of looking at problems and while she’s more than in touch with her emotions, she doesn’t let them get in the way when something needs doing.
